ANTOINETTE WITTER

I come from an Irish family where, in the 1970’s, good home cooking was the order of the day and every meal started from scratch. There were no second helpings and rarely did we have sweets or treats. We were all generally healthy with no major illness or diseases and despite my best efforts to skip school, I just wasn’t sick enough!

As the years progressed and I went to college to study engineering, my dietary habits changed and home cooking was quickly replaced with processed foods bought for convenience and of course taste. It didn’t take long before I gained substantial weight and life stresses took their toll resulting in a myriad of ‘unexplained’ health issues ranging from digestive, immune, energy and hormonal conditions. I just couldn’t get and stay well, long-term

In an effort to quit smoking, a short course in hypnotherapy led me to discover the link between food and mood and this opened my eyes to the reality that when fed optimally, the human body is a miraculous self-repairing, self-healing machine!

I was hooked! And began to devour books, magazines and any conventional, topical nutritional advice without really knowing what I was doing. I tried so much and got so confused, I soon realised my new, ill-advised healthy eating plan was making and keeping me sick.

The engineer in me decided the only effective solution was to retrain as a Nutritional Therapist and gain the evidence based, scientific knowledge required to become professionally qualified. Following a Diploma in Nutritionally Therapy from the Institute of Health Sciences, I decided to further my studies with the Institute of Functional Medicine and qualified as a Certified Practitioner in 2019

I continue to study medical journals and peer reviewed papers on health and nutrition not only because I’m a self-proclaimed addict to this science but also to bring the latest medical and nutritional research to my clients.

I know how overwhelming and isolating ill health can be and I really want to emphasize that there is so much you can do to change your health in a positive way

My goal is to reach as many people as possible so that they understand the simple and effective aspects of nutrition for health and wellbeing. Let’s start with you!

She grew up in the family where food was always a big thing. Locally grown, fresh and seasonal. A healthy variety of food is what she can remember from her childhood and till this day she can’t find a tomato that tastes like the one her grandmother used to grow

To understand the importance of food and its impact on the body she decided to deepen her knowledge by studying nutritional therapy with the Institute of Health Sciences Ireland

Anna has worked with children for over decade and has a great connection with the little ones. She graduated in Sociology and is a Montessori Teacher specialising in teaching visually impaired and blind children

As a mother of a young child she embraces her creative side in the kitchen, experimenting with variety of ingredients creating simple, quick family friendly nutritious meals and snacks

As with all of the practitioners at Happy Gut Clinic, Anna uses a Functional Medicine approach when working with clients

This means she treats body as whole and looks at all its systems as they are all interconnected, focusing on the root cause rather than on symptoms alone
